Near Field Communication (NFC) has gained much momentum since last year’s IEEE CE panel discussion. Samsung and Visa have recently confirmed the newly-announced Galaxy S3 will be the official Olympic Games phone. The phone will be used by athletes during the trial for payment for anything from taxis to clothing to gaining entrance to the Olympic Park at over 140,000 terminals around the capital during the Games. With more than 800 NFC applications on Google Play Store ranging from Touch-a-Note for Evernote, Tappats real-time bus schedule at Stanford University, Impak Health with NFC health sensors, to HID on NFC door lock, NFC is shown to have much more applications than just for mobile payment.
